Asset Types

As we continue to develop our processing capabilities, we will continue to make new asset types available to our users. If you don't see an asset type that meets your needs, let us know. Our goal is to make imagery access easy and a variety of asset types that meet our user's broad range of needs is one way we hope to do that.

We group assets into the following categories which focus on specific user segments.

View Ready

View ready assets are processed for human visualization. They are pan-sharpened and the dynamic range is adjusted to 8-bits. they generally include only three spectral bands, making them ready to open with a variety of image viewing/editing software including web browsers, desktop image viewers, GIS software, etc. View ready products are generally offered in formats that allow for download or streaming into applications such as web map tiles and cloud-optimized geotiff.

Analysis Ready

Analysis ready assets contain the full 12-bit dynamic range (or 14-bit for LWIR). Data may be normalized to top-of-atmosphere or surface reflectance/radiance, allowing for consistent spectral analysis across images. Analysis ready assets are generally in cloud-optimized geotiff format. Analysis ready assets also include several data quality masks, making it easy to decide if a region of an image is suitable for end-user analysis.

Photogrammetry Ready

Photogrammetry ready assets are generally raw in form and include metadata assets that allow users to perform their own advanced photogrammetric processing. They are generally stored in cloud-optimized tiff or NITF formats.

Currently Supported Asset Types:

  • view_ready_cog: native-resolution, true-color (RGB) image in cloud-optimized geotiff format. The quintessential "pretty picture" you would expect from the worlds highest resolution commercial imaging satellite.
  • view_ready_tiles: Same as 'view_ready_cog', but in web map tile format.
